Power Semiconductor Evolution

Power devices form the essential electronic switches managing high voltage and current in modern systems. Traditionally, silicon-based devices like IGBTs and MOSFETs have dominated, enabling efficient power control in applications from motor drives to power supplies.

The landscape is now transforming with wide bandgap semiconductors, primarily silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN). These materials offer superior properties, enabling devices that operate at higher frequencies, temperatures, and voltages with significantly lower energy losses compared to silicon.
