Tanu Weds Manu Returns is a 2015 Indian romantic comedy film directed by Aanand L. Rai, which is a sequel to the 2011 film Tanu Weds Manu. R. Madhavan, Kangana Ranaut, Jimmy Sheirgill, Deepak Dobriyal, Swara Bhaskar, and Eijaz Khan reprise their roles from the original film. Ranaut also portrays the additional role of a Haryanvi athlete in it. The film received critical acclaim and was a commercial success, becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2015 and one of the highest-grossing female-lead films in India.
The film carries the story forward showing the next chapter in the couple's life. Tanu and Manu have been married for four years but all is not well in paradise: Manu lands up in a mental institution in London, while Tanu comes back to Kanpur, leaving Manu's friend, Pappi to fend for him. He manages to get Manu released from the asylum and they return to India. Meanwhile, Tanu encounters a crafty law student called Chintu who has become a lodger but refuses to pay rent nor does he vacate. Tanu also rekindles her old flame with her ex-boyfriend Raja Awasthi, who is now a successful politician. On the other hand, Manu meets Tanu's lookalike Kusum, a Haryanvi athlete who resembles her but is completely opposite in personality. Manu falls in love with Kusum and decides to marry her, much to the dismay of Tanu and Pappi. The rest of the film revolves around how Tanu and Manu realize their true feelings for each other and how they reunite after a series of hilarious and dramatic events.
